Potato variety classification

There are many ways to have a potato? What tickles your potato taste buds?
Is it a lightly salted mash served with cream? Is it a well baked spud with a filling of your choice? Or is it that waist and weight preserving healthy potato salad?

For the first time Potatoes South Africa will officially launch a classification system aimed at helping our most treasured Spud consumers at making sound and well informed potato purchases. In 2006 Potatoes South Africa commissioned the University of Pretoria and the Agricultural Research Council to run tests on different types of potatoes in order to determine their cooking characteristics and what each variety can best be used for. The results are a SMAHING cultivar classification system which you can download and read at your leisure. Did you ever think potatoes could be this versatile?
