Quality control Assurance
The potato industry is one of the few fresh produce industries currently in South Africa which has a full quality assurance service at all the fresh produce markets in the country. The potato industry acknowledges the importance of this service and recognises the added benifits thatresult from this - such as tracebility of the product.
This quality assurance service is provided to the potato industry by PROKON, an article 21 company. PROKON (Product Control for Agriculture),is charged with establishing and maintaining product quality control for the benefit of all, from the farmer to the potato consumer. The structure of PROKON enables it to provide the same quality assurance services to other interested fresh produce industries.
