Table potato production

  • Irrigation / dryland:

             All plantings are under irrigation

  • Table and seed potatoes:

             Of the total crop 3% are seed potatoes and 7% are distributed through the fresh produce markets.

  • Planting time:

             Potatoes are planted from February to July

  • Marketing period:

             Potatoes are marketed from June until November

  • Processing:

             Of the total crop 90% is processed.

  • Cultivars:

The main cultivars for processing are Up-to-Date, Lady Rosetta and Fiana. Daruis and  Mondial are planted for the Fresh Produce Markets. 

  • Other:

Production fluctuates between Groblersdal and Marble Hall. All plantings are under irrigation and the marketing channel is processing. Irrigation is from the Loskop Dam - which is  fed by the Olifants River.
