Table potato production

• Irrigation / dry-land:     
  • 40% of the plantings are produced under dry-land conditions and 60% under irrigation.

• Table and seed potatoes:  
  • Seed potatoes contribute 7-10% of the annual planting.

• Planting time:  
  • Potatoes are planted from August to November.

• Marketing period:  
  • From January to September.

• Cultivars:                
  • The main cultivars are - BP1, Up-to-Date, Darius, Fabula, Avalanche and Mondial
• Other:
  • In the past, dry-land potatoes were produced, but recently more potatoes are irrigated for two main reasons:

1. To reach the market at an earlier stage.
2. Due to high input costs farmers tend to irrigate more to eliminate the risk.
