To facilitate traceability for food safety, quality, sanitary and phytosanitary reasons all product containers destined for sale on the local as well as export market must be marked with a Food Business Operator code (FBO code) in addition to the name and address of the producer, exporter or owner of the carton.

The Protection of Personal Information Act, No 4 of 2013 promotes the protection of personal information by public and private bodies. The Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act has been signed into law by the President on 19 November and published in the Government Gazette Notice 37067 on 26 November 2013. Once the Act is made effective, companies will be given a year’s grace period to comply with the Act, unless this grace period is extended as allowed by the Act. Read more

Plant Improvement Act 1976
Potato Certification Service has been contracted by the authority, the Independent Certification Council for Seed Potatoes, appointed by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to exercise the powers, perform the functions and carry out the duties conferred upon, assigned to or imposed upon the authority under the South African Seed Potato Certification Scheme. Potato Certification Service plays a leadership role in the pursuit of a sustained supply of high-quality planting material to the potato industry of South Africa. Read more
