Seed potato production
RSA
Statistics presented on this page represent a production season from 1 July to 30 June the following year.
There are ± 200 active seed growers in South Africa which produce seed potatoes in 14 regions throughout the year. The certified yield per hectare have increased constantly over the past few years.
High prices for ware potatoes presumably was responsible for the decrease in seed certified during 2002 and 2003. The past season an increase in certified seed yields is noted. The demand for good quality seed is sustained.
