What does research mean to the potato producer? [News, CHIPS]

“The migration of T. absoluta from Europe and the Middle East to Africa, and then southwards towards South Africa, was cause for concern for potato producers because potato is also a host to Tuta. In addition, Tuta is known to develop resistance to insecticide relatively quickly.  Potatoes South Africa (PSA) approved funding for a research project to determine in a scientific way, whether Tuta entered the country with resistance to insecticides. The good news is that all six products currently registered against Tuta, are still effective to control the insect.
