In the heart of Zebediela in Limpopo, local vegetable producer Sello Klass Thole is proving that with the right support, determination, and knowledge, emerging producers can transform their agricultural dreams into reality. This season marked an important milestone as he planted his very first potato crop through the Potatoes SA Small Grower Development Programme (SGDP).
The planting experience was both exciting and educational. According to Sello, the journey opened his eyes to the technical and management aspects involved in successful potato production. From land preparation and seed selection to planting techniques and crop management, every stage provided valuable lessons that have strengthened his confidence as an emerging producer.
“The experience taught me a lot about potato farming, and I am looking forward to becoming a full-time potato producer in the future,” he said. He expressed sincere gratitude to the Potatoes SA team for the skills, guidance, and mentorship they provided throughout the planting process.
What made planting even more impactful was Sello’s decision to invite neighbouring producers to participate and learn from the experience.
